The historic corridors of Auckland House School came alive with nostalgia, celebration and emotion on Friday as generations of former students returned to their alma mater for a grand celebration marking the institution’s 160th Founder’s Day.
From heartfelt reunions to heritage tributes, the campus witnessed a vibrant gathering of alumnae who came together to celebrate the school’s extraordinary legacy of education, tradition and lifelong bonds built over more than a century and a half.
The celebrations began with a special prayer service, setting a reflective tone for the day, followed by the launch of a commemorative coffee table book and a special postal cover honouring the institution’s rich heritage. A nostalgic podcast featuring treasured memories, inspiring stories and defining milestones from Auckland House School’s journey was also presented, drawing applause and emotions from the audience.
One of the most memorable moments of the event was the re-opening of the iconic Old Hall — a place deeply connected with generations of Auckyites and countless school memories. In a symbolic gesture towards the future, alumnae also participated in a plantation drive themed “Planting Memories and Growing the Future,” during which 160 saplings were planted on the campus.
The celebrations blended tradition with youthful energy as the event concluded with lunch at the school dining hall and spirited sports fixtures between Class XII students and alumnae, rekindling old rivalries, laughter and school spirit.
Presiding over the function, Bishop of the Diocese of Amritsar Rt. Rev. Manoj Charan praised Auckland House School for preserving its values and commitment to holistic education across generations.
Former MP Pratibha Singh and Dr. Amreen Kaur also attended the celebrations and interacted with students and alumnae. Pratibha Singh described Auckland House School as one of Shimla’s most distinguished educational institutions and appreciated its contribution in shaping confident and socially responsible women.
Principal Smaraki Smantaroy said the occasion was not merely a reunion but a celebration of shared values, memories and the enduring emotional connection between the institution and its alumnae. She noted that while the school continues to evolve with changing times, it remains deeply rooted in its heritage and traditions.
The event was also attended by Auckland House School for Boys Founding Principal Michael John and current Principal Reuben John, who lauded the strong sense of belonging and emotional attachment alumni continue to share with the institution.
Tracing its remarkable journey back to 1866, school authorities highlighted that Auckland House School was originally established as Punjab Girls School at Holy Lodge on Jakhu Hill before shifting to its present campus. Over the decades, the institution has grown into one of Himachal Pradesh’s most respected centres of learning, carrying forward a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
