Governor and Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday called for integrating India’s traditional knowledge systems with modern education to develop skilled, value-driven and socially responsible citizens.

Addressing the 57th Foundation Day celebrations of Himachal Pradesh University, the Governor congratulated the university fraternity and appreciated its contribution to academics, research and innovation since its establishment in 1970. He also lauded the institution’s NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation.

Emphasising the changing global challenges, including climate change and natural disasters, Gupta urged the university to focus on research in disaster management, environmental sustainability and emerging technologies. He also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary studies, regional languages, medicinal plants, organic farming and indigenous knowledge systems.

The Governor encouraged faculty members to adopt villages and contribute towards education, environmental awareness and social development at the grassroots level.

Quoting the traditional ideal of learning and service, he said students should combine modern technology with India’s cultural values to help the country emerge as a global knowledge leader.

On the occasion, the Governor presented awards to outstanding teachers, researchers and employees for their contributions.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including research projects supported by ARTRAC and DRDO, along with the launch of new interdisciplinary centres and skill-based courses.
