CM Sukhu virtually attended the inauguration ceremony marking the start of classes in the newly constructed building of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Deori, located in Mandi district. Built at a cost of ₹3.62 crore alongside a nearby primary school facility constructed for ₹70 lakh, the new structure replaces the previous building that was completely washed away by devastating rainstorms on August 14, 2023.
In his address, Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi intended to attend the inauguration in person, but severe weather prevented her travel. He assured students that she would visit them directly in September. Extending his heartiest congratulations to the students, the Chief Minister praised the local community’s extraordinary contribution toward rebuilding efforts. He specially acknowledged local donors Chinta Devi, Dasi Devi, and Punni Devi for generously donating over one bigha of land to the Education Department for the project.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is actively restoring damaged educational infrastructure with modern facilities while implementing policy reforms to elevate educational standards. He noted that these targeted initiatives successfully raised Himachal Pradesh’s national education ranking from 21st place in 2021 to 5th place. To encourage the students, who presented a cultural performance during the event, the Chief Minister announced a grant of ₹1 lakh for the school.
During the event, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Sunil Sharma Bittu, shared a personal message from Priyanka Gandhi. Recalling her visit to the flood-affected region on September 12, 2023, she commended the resilient spirit shown by the community over the past three years. Praising the populace for their unwavering courage, she emphasized that schools serve as vital foundations where students absorb core constitutional values, unity, and essential skills to shape the nation’s future.
