CM Sukhu visited the remote Bara Bhangal region of Kangra district and announced a series of major welfare and development measures aimed at improving living conditions in one of the state’s most inaccessible areas.
Marking a historic first, the Chief Minister stayed overnight in Bara Bhangal, becoming the first sitting CM to do so, and directly interacted with residents to understand their daily challenges and long-standing issues.
Addressing the public, Sukhu announced that all eligible women in Bara Bhangal will receive ₹1,500 per month under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana. He also declared steps to ensure round-the-clock electricity supply through the installation of generator sets in the region.
To strengthen education access, the government will provide incentives to school-going children and designate nearby schools as nodal institutions, enabling students from Bara Bhangal to continue their studies in areas such as Bir and adjoining regions.
The Chief Minister further announced plans to develop Bara Bhangal as an eco-tourism destination, tapping its natural landscape for sustainable tourism growth. He also said that Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be introduced for naturally grown rajmah, supporting farmers practicing natural farming.
Sukhu directed Agriculture Department officials to expand natural farming initiatives in the region and ensure adequate support to local farmers. He also announced government procurement of mutton from sheep rearers to strengthen livelihoods in the pastoral community.
Reassuring residents, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to easing hardships in this remote region and improving basic infrastructure and services. Earlier, he also assessed damage caused by recent natural disasters during his visit.
