CM Sukhu has directed the Education Department to speed up the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day Boarding Schools across Himachal Pradesh, with plans to set up at least one such institution in every Assembly constituency.

The ambitious initiative aims to provide quality and holistic education from pre-primary to Class XII, especially benefiting students in remote and rural regions. The proposed schools will feature modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms, sports facilities, indoor stadiums, swimming pools, and other advanced amenities.

The Chief Minister said the project forms a major pillar of the state government’s ongoing education reforms focused on improving learning standards and expanding access to quality education.

Highlighting recent reforms, Sukhu said the government has restructured the Education Department by creating separate Directorates for School Education and Higher Education to streamline administration and strengthen academic outcomes.

He added that government school teachers are being sent abroad on exposure visits to study global education systems and adopt best practices, while meritorious students are also being provided opportunities for international educational tours.

The Chief Minister stated that teacher recruitment was being carried out on priority to address staff shortages and ensure uninterrupted studies. He also noted that 156 schools in the state are being affiliated with the CBSE curriculum, with Arts, Science, and Commerce streams introduced in these institutions.

Referring to recent achievements, Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh has climbed from 13th to 6th rank nationally in the Performance Grading Index 2.0 released by the Ministry of Education, while also securing third place among states in school education performance.

He further pointed out that the state made remarkable gains in the National Achievement Survey 2025, rising from 21st position in 2021 to emerge among the top five states in the country.
