Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the historic International Minjar Fair at Chamba, describing the centuries-old festival as a symbol of Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and social harmony.
Addressing the gathering at Chaugan, the Governor said fairs and festivals play a vital role in preserving folk culture and urged the younger generation to stay connected with their roots and celebrate India’s diverse heritage.
He said Minjar Fair strengthens unity and brotherhood among communities. Expressing concern over drug abuse, he called for collective efforts to protect youth and build a drug-free Himachal, while appreciating Chamba Police’s initiatives in this direction.
The Governor highlighted Chamba’s traditional crafts, including Chamba Rumal, Chamba Chappal and Chamba Thal, and praised artisans preserving the district’s rich artistic legacy.
On Kargil Vijay Diwas, he paid floral tribute to Chamba’s Kargil martyrs Ashish Thapa, Khem Raj and Om Prakash and honoured Kargil veterans and families of gallantry award recipients.
The festival was formally inaugurated with the hoisting of the traditional Minjar flag. The cultural highlight was the presentation of Kunjari Malhar by Ajit Bhatt and Party, who have preserved this unique tradition for over three decades.
