Possessing a keen sense observation as well as connotation of using the right words at the right place are key ingredients to writing, as Dr Usha Bande shared with our young interviewer Aarzu Kumra, a class 9 student of Auckland House School. During the conversation Dr Bande further emphasised the influence of literature on our culture and how it is instrumental in shaping societies.

Weaving through the questions put forth by the young interviewer, Dr Bande answered each question deftly and precisely as she narrated incidents and influences from her own life which helped her shape her literary career while she was teaching English in RKMV College, Shimla, for 35 years. Her sojourns especially to the hills, as well as other states name Goa and Kochi, all inspired her to pen few amazing short stories.

Dr Bande also read two of her short stories which have a deep meaning and everyone can easily connect with them easily, racial discrimination — गोरी सिल्की की ब्राउन गुडिया and human greed for ecology — बाल देवदार की व्यथा.
