Excitement levels were high among readers and especially among children as students of various schools attended a workshop conducted by well-known children’s writer Dr. Kshama Sharma and noted writer/editor Dr. Suryanath Singh at Gaiety Theatre here today. The programme focused on Children’s Literature: Let’s Learn – How to Write Stories and Poetry as the resource persons engaged a few beneficial pointers relating to writing stories and as well as writing poetry. They even touched upon how rhyming a poetry was always not a necessity, it is important to write and let your creativity come out. Another aspect they touched upon was about how slogans were used as attractive tools to create a demand for the products, thus giving the children a few tips about advertising. The children even read their self composed poems and impressed the audience.

A slogan writing competition was also organized for the children, the theme for which was ‘Reading is fun’. Students from some prominent schools across Shimla, including St. Thomas School, Monal Public School, Government Senior Secondary School, Sanjauli and Auckland House School participated in the event. In the end, children were presented with books as gifts from National Book Trust, India.

The fair also saw several cultural performances showcasing the rich folk and traditional music and dances of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla Book Fair timings are from 11 am to 8 pm daily and entry is free for visitors. Special discount for school students is also being provided on the purchase of books.
