Even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Himachal Pradesh managed to collect a sum of Rs. 145 crore in public donations, however, the response to the Aapda Rahat Kosh-2023 has surpassed all expectations, and donations continue to pour in, with the total expected to surpass Rs. 300 crore.

The affectionate monikers ‘Sukhu Sir’ for children and ‘Sukhu Bhai’ for the youth are now synonymous with hope and compassion. Leading from the front, the Chief Minister himself donated a substantial Rs. 51 lakh from his personal savings to support his fellow citizens in their time of need. Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu drew inspiration from the young children who selflessly donated their piggy banks, stating, “If they can donate their savings, why can’t I?”

His family also joined in wholeheartedly to support the relief effort. Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s mother, Sansar Devi, donated Rs. 50 thousand, while his sister, Sanjokta Devi, contributed Rs. 1,11,111 towards the Aapda Rahat Kosh.

The overwhelming support from the general public, amassing Rs. 200 crore, serves as a testament to both the unwavering dedication of the present State government to assist its people during challenging times and the exceptional leadership skills of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The people of Himachal Pradesh firmly believe in the sincere intentions of the state government, particularly in the compassionate leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The Chief Minister expressed deep gratitude for the historic donations, stating, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the organizations, government employees and pensioners, MLAs, other state governments and individuals who have voluntarily made generous contributions to the recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Himachal Pradesh for those who have suffered immense losses in the recent devastation.

Every contribution, regardless of its size, carries the same weight because it symbolizes the spirit of giving. In this critical moment, Himachal Pradesh has demonstrated unity and generosity, illustrating that community, when united, can overcome any adversity. The donations flowing into the Aapda Rahat Kosh-2023 reflect our state’s collective empathy and unwavering commitment to rebuilding the lives and communities affected by this disaster.”
