1832- यूनान स्वतंत्र गणराज्य बना।

1861- नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त बांग्ला कवि, कहानीकार और गीतकार रबीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर का जन्म।

1880- महान भारतीय संस्कृतज्ञ एवं विद्वान पंडित पांडुरंग वामन काणे का जन्म ।

1889- प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी तथा ‘हिन्दुस्तानी सेवादल’ के संस्थापक एन. एस. हार्डिकर का जन्म।

1907- बम्बई में पहली इलेक्ट्रिक ट्राम कार का संचालन।

1934- फिलीपींस में विश्व के सबसे बड़े आकार का मोती मिला।

1940- विस्टन चर्चिल ब्रिटेन के प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1952- इंटीग्रेटेड सर्किट का कॉन्सेप्ट पहली बार जेफ्री डमर ने प्रकाशित किया।

1968- उत्तर प्रदेश के उपमुख्यमंत्री केशव प्रसाद मौर्य का जन्म।

1973- अरुणाचल प्रदेश की नई राजधानी की आधारशिला ईटानगर में रखी गई।

1975- अमेरिका ने वियतनाम युद्ध के समाप्ती की घोषणा की।

1976- एलेक्ज़ेंडर ग्राहम बेल को अपने आविष्कार का पेटेंट मिला जिसे उन्होंने ‘टेलीफोन’ (दूरभाष) का नाम दिया।

2001- हिन्दी सिनेमा के मशहूर गीतकार प्रेम धवन का निधन।

2004- नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री सूर्य बहादुर थापा ने इस्तीफा दिया।

2008- पाकिस्तान ने परमाणु हथियार ले जाने में सक्षम मिसाइल हत्फ़-8 का परीक्षण किया।

2008- रूस के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति ब्लादिमीर पुतिन ने देश के 10वें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली।

2008- दिमित्री मेदवेदेव ने रूस के तीसरे राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली।

2010- चिली ओईसीडी का 31वां सदस्य बना।

2012- व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने तीसरी बार रूस के राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ ली।

2015- ब्रिटेन में कंजर्वेटिव पार्टी को मिला बहुमत, डेविड कैमरून फिर से प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1915 – The British passenger liner Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine, contributing to the United States’ entry into World War One; 1,198 passengers and crew perished.

1942 – The Austrian conductor and composer Felix Weingartner died. He was best known for interpretations of Wagner and Beethoven.

1945 – The instruments of the surrender of German forces in World War Two were signed by General Alfred Jodl, the German chief of staff, at U.S. General Dwight Eisenhower’s headquarters in Reims, France.

2001 – Ronnie Biggs, who took part in Britain’s “Great Train Robbery” in 1963, voluntarily ended 35 years on the run by returning to Britain from Brazil.

2002 – Chinese tightrope walker breaks record after spending 22 days on high wire.

2003 – The United States added the Spanish Basque nationalist party Batasuna and its predecessors to a list of terrorist groups.

2005 – Nobel laureate David Trimble, an architect of Northern Ireland’s 1998 peace deal, stepped down as leader of the Protestant Ulster Unionist Party after he lost his seat and his party did poorly in Britain’s general election.

2007 – Flamboyant British fashion editor and style icon Isabella Blow, one of the industry’s great eccentrics who helped launch the careers of models and designers, died aged 48.

2008 – Dmitry Medvedev was sworn in as Russian president and nominated his predecessor Vladimir Putin as prime minister, ushering in an unprecedented period of dual rule.

2009 – Mickey Carroll, one of the last surviving diminutive “Munchkins” in the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz,” died of natural causes aged 89.

2015 – New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez hits his 661st home run, surpassing record of Willie Mays.
