Kala Sangam, spearheaded by noted Kathak dancer and professional artist Poonam Sharma, presented an amazing musical dance drama titled ‘Geeta Rahasya’, here today at Gaiety Theatre’s  Multipurpose Hall, Shimla. A unique musical, the first of its kind in India, which was based on the illustrious literary work Bhagavad Gita  under the esteemed patronage of Language & Culture Dept, HP; Dinkar Smriti Nyas and the National Book Trust of India. Anurita Saxena, PhD, Associate Professor History, RKMV College graced the occasion as the chief guest along with Sh Sriniwas Joshi, Prof Meenakshi Faith Paul, Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty and many other guests from around the City.

At the heart of this musical lies a profound analysis of karma-yoga as presented in the Bhagavad Gita, a timeless gift from the Vedas and the Upanishads. Authored by the iconic Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the Gita Rahasya offers a unique perspective on the philosophy of Karma yoga. Tilak penned this insightful work while incarcerated in Mandalay, Burma, in 1915, underlining the essence of selfless action (Nishkam Karmayoga) as the true message of the Bhagavad Gita.

As the first of its kind in India, Gita Rahasya seeks to bring the ultimate wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to life through the mesmerizing medium of a musical dance drama. This innovative approach aims to captivate audiences and convey the profound teachings of Lord Krishna in an artistic and accessible manner. The vision and passion of Kathak dancer and teacher Poonam Sharma through this musical strives to ensure that the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita continue to inspire and guide individuals on their spiritual journeys. The senior and young performers namely, Divya, Archana, Priyanka, Samiksha, Shipra, Vaishnavi, Vasudha, Hansika, Aditi, Sonal, Seerat, Anjali, Jahnvi, Antra, Suhani, Divyanshi, Sukriti and Divya, are also students of Ms Sharma.

This performance promises to be a cultural and spiritual spectacle, weaving together the rich tapestry of the Bhagavad Gita with the expressive and captivating art form of musical dance drama. Continuing forward with this musical journey, Kala Sangam will showcase it in various cities of the nation, beginning with their second performance scheduled in Delhi on 23rd December.
