An Inter School English Drama competition was held at Auckland House Girls School, Shimla to commemorate their Sesquicentennial Celebrations. In all students of five schools including AHS Girls, AHS Boys, DAV Lakkar Bazaar, St. Thomas’ and BCS participated in the competition and gave remarkable performances.

Each play had a different shade that captivated the audience and forced everyone to contemplate on the way we live life such as a play staged by AHS for Boys – Cell Phone Zombies where youth is totally engulfed in their phones and hardly lift their head to look at people and situations around them. People are so badly devoted to their cell phones that they only sleep, eat and drink technology.

In another play by DAV – The Stranger, greed overtakes a family and they end up murdering their own son being unaware about his true identity and get carried away by his money.

AUCK.DRAMA.7.8 (15)St. Thomas’ – The Nation Wants To Know was a satire on media where real issues are given backseat and useless stories are always given prime importance.

Bishop Cotton’s play The Sheriff’s Kitchen brought humour to life as with commendable acting skills students made everyone laugh. It was about a chef who makes food and other person tries to eat it but could not. The situational comedy was worth a watch.

Last but not the least Auckland House for Girls staged a ply tiled Husband for Breakfast, yet another comedy play where a drunken husband sells his wife at a petty amount. However, the wife turns out to be very smart and she manages to get lots of financial security from the rich man who feared becoming her husband.

The results of the competition were as — first, second and third positions were bagged by Auckland House, St. Thomas’ and Bishop Cotton School respectively. Consolation prize was won by DAV Lakkar Bazaar, Shimla.

The judges for the competitions were Punam Tshering, an actor par excellence and Raaja Bhasin who is a noted historian, Travel & Story writer. The competition turned out to be a great success and the participants were commended for their acting skills by the judges.
