The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) Shimla Chapter, in its relentless pursuit of promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability, participated in the Van Mahotsav by planting saplings at village Mahuri, Panchayat Shoghi in Shimla. The event, organized with fervour and commitment, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our green heritage and the significance of tree plantation in mitigating climate change.

Van Mahotsav is an annual pan-Indian plantation drive that celebrates the importance of trees and forests in our lives. The PRSI Shimla Chapter actively took part in this celebration by orchestrating a day-long sapling plantation drive that brought together members of PRSI Shimla Chapter, BS Panwar, Vice President of PRSI, Dr Dev Kanya Thakur General Secretary, Jagmohan, Secretary Trasurer PRSI and members of PRSI Shimla Chapter Yadvender Chauhan, Ashok Sharma, Dr KG Thakur, Dr Dinesh Thakur, Chandershekhar Verma, Pradeep Kumar and Rohit Thakur, Prof GD Gulati, Yogesh Kumar, Forest Guard, Shoghi Beat , Forest Deptt GoHP, Mrs Reena Thakur, President, Aastha Shivalik Mahila Mandal, Mahuri along with other women representative, Pradhan Shoghi Panchayat Inder Singh Thakur other community representatives from Shoghi Panchayat and villagers from Mahuri village and school children .

“The essence of Van Mahotsav lies in recognizing the vital role of trees and forests in sustaining life on Earth,” said BS Panwar, the Vice Chairman of PRSI Shimla Chapter. He further said that “Through our sapling plantation drive, we intend to contribute to the nation’s ecological balance and leave a greener legacy for future generations.” The plantation drive commenced early in the morning at Mahuri village in Shoghi Panchayat with the enthusiastic participation of PRSI members and villagers. The team meticulously chose Devdaar tree considering their adaptability to the local climate and ecological requirements. This approach aims to ensure the long-term survival and growth of the newly planted saplings.

Dr Dev Kanya Thakur, Secretary General PRSI Shimla Chapter added, “We believe that the collective effort of planting trees can significantly impact the environment positively. Trees not only purify the air but also conserve water, provide habitats for wildlife, and act as a natural defense against climate change.” As part of its commitment to sustainability, the PRSI Shimla Chapter plans to monitor the progress of the planted saplings regularly. The Chapter will engage in nurturing and maintaining the trees to ensure their healthy growth into robust contributors to the region’s ecological well-being. The Chapter also encourages the citizens of Shimla to embrace the spirit of Van Mahotsav throughout the year by adopting a tree-planting culture and becoming custodians of the environment.
