To inculcate the feeling Rakhsha Bandhan among their children, Guru Nanak Foundation Public School, Mohali celebrated Rakhi with great fervour and enthusiasm. Rakhi making activity was held in the primary section in which all the students showed their creativity. They were totally engrossed while performing the task.
For the senior section a rakhi making competition was held. Students were engaged in making beautiful rakhis. They tied these rakhis to the fellow classmates. Air was filled with the essence of celebration. Principal Namita Lal appreciated and congratulated all the students. She said to students that Rakhi is a sacred thread embellished with sister’s love and affection for her brother.
Rakhi is a festival that celebrates a brother sister relationship — Raksha Bandhan, the day stands for the unconditional love and affection shared between brothers and sisters. On this day sisters tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers and express their love to them. After receiving the rakhi from a sister, a brother sincerely takes the responsibility of protecting her sister.
Raksha Bandhan is mentioned in our epics as a festival of Gods. It is said that Yamuna, the sister of Yama, the lord of death used to tie rakhi to his brother on every shravan purima. Indrani tied rakhi to her brother Lord Indra. Yama was so impressed by the occasion that he declared that whoever got a rakhi tied from his sister would become immortal from that day onwards girls tie rakhi to their brothers wishing them along life.
