“Gentle, good natured, soft hearted and grand; ready always with a smile and a helpful hand; admired and regarded as knowledgeable and wise; nurturing their grandchildren to reach for the skies!!! An energetic morning spent to honour the grandparents — Grand Queen title was awarded to Vijay Laxmi; Grand King title was given to DS Thakur; most enthusiastic grand dad was DS Khagta; most enthusiastic grand mom was Krishna Nijalawan; most charismatic couple was Madhu Sood and PK Sood !!!

Euro.8.8.15insidebEuro Kids Prep School Principal Ravine Singh and her very supportive team of teachers, organized a grand party for the grandparents, emphasizing on celebration of life and the anchor role they play in our children’s lives. Calling them as the angels of our little ones, Principal Ravine said, “Grandparents are god’s most cherished gift as you give children love, kindness, patience and comfort. You hold their tiny hands and stand by them in every step as they are growing up”. She further added that today’s event was especially to honour all the grandparents and the important role they played in each and every child.

What followed next was a round of some very entertaining games and dance performances. First was a ‘slogan writing competition’. All were asked to pen down commonly read slogans behind trucks and utility vans, which was won by Madhu Sood, ex-Shimla City Mayor, as she had written eight slogans. Next game was the ‘string of love’. Pieces of threads were scattered around the hall and grandparents were asked to collect them and make a string, the one having the longest would win and the winner was grand mom Vijay Laxmi.

Euro.8.8.15insideWithout music and dance, no celebration is complete and to entertain the grandparents, school principal and teachers, namely Shalini, Renu, Rachna, Kartika, Sonia and Saumya, had prepared a dance number. They danced to a melody of retro songs and received a huge round of applause. Then came the ‘couples dance’ as the grandparents stepped up to participate. A ball was placed between their foreheads which they were supposed to hold and dance. The excitement and joy was clearly evident from their enthusiasm to participate as they tried to hold the ball. Couple PN Nanda and Kaushalya were the winners of this round.

The last game of the morning was ‘passing the handi’. As music stopped the grandparents picked up a chit and sung songs on the word they received. Grandparents — Budhi Singh Thakur, DS Thakur, SC Thakur, Santosh Bragta, Kamlesh Dhaulta, Madhu Sood, Mrs Singh among others sung quite a few retro tunes remembering their golden days. However, Krishna Nijhaian and DS Khagta voiced their opinions about the importance given to grandparents and appreciating their role in children’s lives. They lauded the efforts of the principal and the teachers for teaching their children such deep values and morals so that they could grow up to become model citizens (see videos).

The morning ended on a high note as all grandparents stepped onto the stage to dance on few retro and modern numbers expressing their joy and happiness and the gala time they had during the event!
