The All India National Education Federation recently had a detailed discussion with the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor EM Jagadish Kumar. During the meeting, various pending issues related to education and teachers were raised. The delegation emphasized the need for uniform implementation of UGC Regulations of 2018 throughout the country. Making the report of the Discrepancy Resolution Committee public, and exempting service teachers from the PhD eligibility exam. UGC to Take Positive Actions

Although, the delegation further requested an increase in service tenure of university principals until retirement age. On the other hand, annual publication of UGC Care List journals and its expansion in a transparent manner, regular appointments to vacant teaching positions, and extending the applicability of UGC Regulations 2010 for career advancement plans. However, the federation also highlighted the need to equalize the service conditions and retirement age of other academic staff in higher education institutions with those of teachers.

Additionally, UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the importance of understanding each subject seriously and expressed confidence that the commission would take positive decisions on these issues soon. Thus, he stated that discussions would be held with state governments to establish uniform provisions for the service conditions of teachers based on the UGC’s criteria, and efforts would be made to fill vacancies in higher education institutions on a priority basis.

Obstacles in Implementing National Education Policy

Moreover, the federation also discussed the difficulties in implementing the National Education Policy and drew attention to the obstacles faced at the ground level. Specifically, they highlighted the need for financial and human resources and coordination between states and the central government.

Despite this, the meeting was attended by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish Joshi, President of the All India National Educational Federation Prof. JP Singh, Education Minister Shivnand Sindanakera, Organizational Minister Mahendra Kapoor, Joint Organizational Minister Jee Lakshman, Higher Education Division Head Mahendra Kumar, Additional Minister Dr. Narayan Lal Gupta, Vice President Prof. Pragnesh Shah, Secretary Dr. Geeta Bhatt, and Joint Secretary Dr. Pradeep Kherkar.
